Suspension & Dismissal Policy at LSMT

We are committed to upholding high academic standards that promote excellence, integrity, and student success. This policy outlines the protocols surrounding suspension, dismissal, and readmission, as well as the non-discrimination policy, ensuring a fair, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all.

  1. Suspension & Dismissal

We expect students to maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their programme to ensure they meet the institution’s high standards. In cases where students fall below these academic requirements, the following measures may be taken:

    1. Suspension

      • Academic Standards:Students must achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 to remain in good academic standing. If a student’s GPA falls below this threshold, they may face academic suspension.
      • Eligibility for Readmission: Suspended students have the opportunity to apply for readmission once. Upon readmission, the student will be placed on academic probation, with specific terms set to help them meet the required standards. These probationary conditions must be strictly followed to continue enrollment in their programme.
      • Support on Probation: Academic probation offers students support and structured guidance to help them meet and exceed the minimum academic requirements.
    2. Dismissal

      • Conditions for Dismissal: Students who fail to meet the 4.0 GPA requirement after being readmitted following a suspension will be permanently dismissed from LSMT. This decision is based on the student’s inability to meet academic standards despite prior support.
      • Academic Probation Conditions: The dismissal decision is final, with no further opportunities for readmission. This ensures that all students at LSMT meet the high academic and ethical standards expected within the institution.
    3. Readmission Process

      • Application Procedure: student who has been suspended and wishes to return must submit a formal request to the Vice President of Academic Affairs within 15 days of receiving the suspension notice. This request must include a comprehensive plan outlining the steps they will take to achieve satisfactory academic progress.
      • Academic Probation Conditions: If the student’s readmission request is approved, they will return under academic probation with explicit conditions tailored to their progress needs. Adherence to these conditions is mandatory, as failure to do so will result in permanent dismissal from the programme.
    4. Maximum Programme Duration

      • Programme Completion Timeframe: We allow students a maximum duration of 1.5 times the standard length of their programme to complete their studies. For example, if a programme is designed to be completed within two years, the student must complete it within a maximum of three years.
      • Consequences of Exceeding Time Limit: Students who do not complete their programme within this maximum timeframe will be dismissed due to unsatisfactory progress. This policy ensures that students remain actively engaged in their studies and committed to timely programme completion.
  2. Appeals Process

Students have the right to appeal any decision regarding suspension or dismissal if they believe there are valid reasons to reconsider the outcome. This appeals process is designed to provide a fair chance for students who wish to continue their education at LSMT.

    1. Submitting an Appeal

      • Timeline and Format: Students must submit their appeal in writing to the Vice President of Academic Affairs within 15 days of receiving notice of suspension or dismissal. The appeal should provide clear evidence of how the student intends to meet academic standards, addressing any challenges they previously faced.
      • Appeal Content: The appeal should outline the student’s plan for improvement, along with any extenuating circumstances that may have impacted their academic performance.
    2. Appeal Review Process

      • Review and Consideration: The Vice President of Academic Affairs will thoroughly review the appeal, taking into account the student’s academic record, the specific reasons for their academic difficulties, and their proposed plan for improvement.
      • Final Decision: After careful consideration, the Vice President will reach a decision. This decision is final, and the student will be informed within five days of submitting the appeal. If accepted, the student may resume their studies under outlined conditions that support their academic improvement.
    3. Decision Notification

      • Timely Communication: The student will receive written notification of the appeal decision within five days. If the appeal is successful, conditions will be specified to support the student’s academic journey, with close monitoring of their progress.
  3. Non-Discrimination Policy

We are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and diverse academic community. This policy underscores our dedication to providing an equitable environment for all students, ensuring equal access to all programmes, resources, and opportunities.
